Pioneer in Logistics with a Legacy of Service
Jimmie Caldwell, Jr.
It all began with Grandfather Caldwell, an Air Force veteran who served his country with pride. After his military service, he became a trailblazing entrepreneur in the logistics industry, founding Caldwell Trucking LLC over 30 years ago. Navigating the turbulent waters of racism and the challenges of maintaining a Black-owned business during the Civil Rights era, Caldwell Trucking grew into a symbol of resilience and perseverance. Despite the obstacles, he expanded his business, providing crucial services to communities in the South and setting an example for future generations. He believed deeply in building something that would stand the test of time, ensuring his legacy extended beyond the challenges of his day.

Healthcare Professional and Entrepreneur
Katrina Abreu
In the next generation, Caldwell’s daughter continued this tradition of service and entrepreneurship. As a travel nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic, she witnessed firsthand the stress and struggles healthcare professionals faced. Driven by her experience and entrepreneurial spirit, she founded a business that provides wellness products, coaching, and mentoring to novice travel healthcare staff. Her mission was to not only help healthcare workers navigate their demanding jobs but to also equip them with the business essentials needed for long-term success and prosperity. Through her work, she has empowered a new generation of healthcare professionals to thrive both personally and professionally.
Granddaughter
Agricultural Scientist and Entrepreneur
Niyah Abreu
Now, the family’s legacy extends into the future through Caldwell’s granddaughter, a dynamic and passionate agricultural science major at Florida A&M University. With a deep interest in food resilience and environmental justice, she has plans to create rural-urban gardens that will bridge the gap between underserved communities and sustainable agriculture. While she studies, she’s already making waves as the founder of 13th Collection, a niche activewear brand that embodies her commitment to health, wellness, and sustainable living.
A Legacy of Land and Vision for the Future
The Caldwells’ story is deeply intertwined with the land they inherited—80 acres of undeveloped property on Frierson Road in Moundesville, Alabama. Passed down through the family since 1929 by Edith Frierson, this land represents more than just property; it’s a symbol of their ancestors' foresight and perseverance in preserving a legacy for future generations. Now, the family is collaborating on a joint effort to create generational wealth by transforming this land into a hub for environmental climate justice, food resilience, disaster resources, and workforce development.
Ethereal Roots Sanctuary: Building a Better Tomorrow
In June 2024, the family officially launched their 501(c)(3) non-profit, Ethereal Roots Sanctuary, with a bold vision: to serve the underserved and disadvantaged communities through a holistic approach to community development. The sanctuary’s mission includes food resilience programs, ensuring that communities have access to healthy, sustainable food sources; disaster preparedness resources, to help protect vulnerable populations in times of crisis; and workforce development initiatives, aimed at providing skills and opportunities for long-term success.
With their rich history of service, entrepreneurship, and stewardship, the Caldwell family is using their land and resources to create a brighter future for themselves, their community, and generations to come. Ethereal Roots Sanctuary stands as a beacon of hope, carrying forward the values that have defined the family for nearly a century: resilience, innovation, and a commitment to uplifting others.
